I recently visited Primm and Jean, and it appears that Jean is on a positive path, whereas Primm's condition has deteriorated.
I couldn't help but notice that the roller coaster at Buffalo Bill's was temporarily out of service for maintenance when I visited. Surprisingly, there seemed to be no visible repair works taking place at the moment. Similarly, the log flume ride appeared to be lacking a significant amount of water and was consequently closed as well. It's worth mentioning that the Big Shot ride located just outside the back entrance had been disassembled a few years ago, leaving a void in the amusement park's thrill rides. However, to compensate for the absence of these attractions, Buffalo Bill's still offered a Frog Hopper ride tailored for younger children, ensuring that they too could enjoy their time at the park. Additionally, there was an arcade available, adding a touch of nostalgic entertainment for visitors of all ages.
It seems that the monorail connecting the casinos is no longer operational, as I couldn't spot any signs of it in service. On the other hand, the shuttle service is available exclusively on Saturdays. The outlet mall has quite a sizeable area up for rental, indicating potential opportunities for businesses. Interestingly enough, it seems that the mall's security team might be a bit overenthusiastic in their duties.
Whiskey Pete’s
First on my list was Whiskey Pete's. To my delight, I came across some newly improved video poker offerings since my last trip. Notably, they now offer 7/5 Bonus Poker for both quarters and dollars, alongside 9/5 Jacks or Better and Double Double Bonus. These games fall within the 98 percent range, which is a significant upgrade compared to my previous visits. What impressed me further was the fact that all the casinos in Primm had these games spread across their gaming floors, including the bars.
At Whiskey Pete's, you can find an exciting table game pit featuring a variety of thrilling options, including craps, roulette, blackjack, Three Card Poker, and Pai Gow Poker. Regardless of your game of choice, you'll be pleased to know that the minimum bet for all these games is set at an affordable $5. The craps table here offers fantastic odds with a 3-4-5 times multiplier, giving you even more chances to win big. Moreover, the field bet pays double if the dice land on 12, adding an extra layer of excitement to the game. The craps table is a compact version, requiring just one skilled dealer to keep the action going. As for roulette enthusiasts, it's important to note that the wheel is designed with double zero pockets, providing a unique twist to the classic game. Finally, if you're into blackjack, you'll be pleased with the payout structure, as all blackjack hands pay out at a favorable rate of 6:5. So, whether you're a seasoned player or a newcomer to the gaming scene, Whiskey Pete's has something to offer everyone, ensuring a thrilling and rewarding casino experience.
Whiskey Pete's does not have a sportsbook, but you can find a William Hill kiosk for placing wagers. This convenient kiosk is situated in between the bar and monorail station.
Primm Valley Resort
My next destination was Primm Valley Resort, the leading establishment in Primm. With its close proximity to the outlet mall and a convention center, it stands as a beacon of entertainment. Remarkably, on this Wednesday afternoon, it was the solitary casino bustling with players in the pit.
Primm offers identical video poker choices to Whiskey Pete's, and it also boasts a convenient William Hill sportsbook located near the valet entrance.
At Primm Valley Resort, you'll find various table games with different minimum bet requirements. However, 3:2 blackjack and Pai Gow Poker stand out as exceptions with higher minimum bets. For most other table games, including craps, the minimum bet is set at an affordable $5. Speaking of craps, this lively game has two tables available for your enjoyment. One of them is a full-size table, while the other is a miniature version. Both tables offer the possibility of multiplying your winnings with the 3-4-5 times odds. Additionally, if luck is on your side and the roll of the dice results in a 12 on the field, you'll be pleased to know that the payout is double. So, whether you're a seasoned player or new to the world of table games, Primm Valley Resort has something for everyone.
There are a pair of roulette tables, each equipped with double zeros. Additionally, the selection of table games encompasses Three Card Poker, Mississippi Stud, and the intriguing $10 Face Up Pai Gow Poker.
At Primm Valley Resort, you'll find the one and only 3:2 blackjack game in town. It's a popular choice among players due to its favorable rules and higher payout. This particular game requires a minimum bet of $25, making it suitable for both casual and serious gamblers. The tables are equipped with eight decks, ensuring a fair and unpredictable gameplay experience. One notable advantage of playing at Primm Valley Resort is the option to double down before and after splitting, giving you more opportunities to maximize your winnings. However, surrendering is not available in this game, so you'll need to carefully strategize your next move. Another important rule to keep in mind is that aces can only be split once, limiting your chances of further dividing your hand. Lastly, it's worth noting that the dealer hits soft 17 at all Primm tables, adding an extra element of excitement and challenge to the game. So if you're looking for a thrilling blackjack experience with the best odds in town, look no further than Primm Valley Resort.
Buffalo Bill’s
During my Wednesday afternoon visit, I noticed that Buffalo Bill's in Primm appeared to be the least bustling among the three casinos. Surprisingly, the table games were not open at that time. In fact, the whole place seemed eerily deserted. Only about five individuals were engaged in playing slots, and there was not a single soul to be found in the sportsbook. The food court and arcade, on the other hand, had a similar number of guests, which wasn't many at all.
I walked into the bustling table game pit, filled with a variety of exciting options. There were three roulette tables, inviting players to try their luck with the spinning wheel. A mini craps table drew attention, promising thrilling dice rolls and the chance for big wins. Surrounding the area were seven 6:5 blackjack games, each ready to challenge players' card skills. Two Three Card Poker tables stood proudly, offering the opportunity to showcase a winning poker hand. Alongside them was the Face Up Pai Gow Poker table, where players could test their strategic abilities. Lastly, there was the 6:5 Free Bet Blackjack table, providing an intriguing twist on the classic game. The minimum bet across all games was set at an affordable $5, except for Pai Gow Poker, which required a minimum bet of $10. The roulette games featured a double zero, adding an extra element of risk and reward. As for craps, players could take advantage of 3-4-5 times odds, enhancing their chances of winning big. Additionally, the field in craps paid out double for a roll of 12, making it an enticing choice for players seeking a bigger payout.
Buffalo Bill's, much like its Primm counterparts, featured a selection of quarter and dollar video poker games. These included the popular 7/5 Bonus Poker, 9/5 Jacks or Better, and 9/5 Double Bonus variations. But Buffalo Bill's didn't stop there; it also added the enticing 9/5 Double Double Bonus game to its repertoire. For those seeking a more exhilarating experience, the high limit section catered to their desires with $5 and $10 9/6 Jacks or Better, 8/5 Bonus Poker, and 9/6 Double Double Bonus options.
The dining options at the food court include a Panda Express and McDonald’s, while a 24-hour Denny’s is also available. On weekends, customers can enjoy delicious pizza at a separate eatery.
In the heart of Buffalo Bill's, you'll find the magnificent Desperado roller coaster, standing tall as one of the nation's most impressive. With thrilling drops and exhilarating turns, it guarantees an unforgettable ride. While the roller coaster steals the spotlight, let's not forget about the charming log flume and the delightful Frog Hopper, adding to the amusement park's allure. Unfortunately, all the rides are temporarily closed, but fear not, for there's a vibrant arcade adjacent to this area, welcoming visitors 24/7. It's the perfect spot to test your skills and indulge in endless gaming excitement.
Hotel Rooms
I've got some great information about the hotels in Primm! You'll be happy to know that all three of the Primm casinos offer accommodations. What's interesting is that the rates for these hotels are quite similar across the board. On weekdays, you can expect to pay around $35, which is a pretty reasonable price. However, on the weekends, the rates do go up a bit, but they typically don't exceed $100. It's important to note that these rates are for the standard rooms, which come with either one king-sized bed or two queen-sized beds. If you're looking for something a bit more luxurious or spacious, you can opt for the suites, but be prepared to pay around double the normal rates. Keep in mind that in addition to the room rates, there is also a resort fee of $16 plus tax.
Non-gambling Attractions and Entertainment in Primm
Primm Valley Resort has a convention center and an attached outlet mall for all your shopping needs. Each of the casinos within the resort also provides a cozy lounge area where you can relax and unwind. If you're in the mood for some entertainment, head over to Buffalo Bill's, where you can catch a movie at their theater. And if you're looking to pamper yourself, Primm Valley boasts a luxurious spa where you can indulge in some much-needed relaxation. Additionally, for those who love golf, there are two exceptional golf courses available for your enjoyment.
The Verdict
Primm offers a satisfactory spot to take a break during a road trip, with ample attractions for gamblers seeking a fulfilling vacation experience.
During my visit, I was delighted to find that Primm offers an extensive range of dining choices, catering to every palate and preference, ranging from quick and convenient fast food options to elegant and attentive full-service restaurants. However, I couldn't help but notice that gas prices in Primm were rather exorbitant, leaving my wallet considerably lighter. In fact, the cost per gallon was approximately $1.35 higher than in Las Vegas and a staggering $0.54 more expensive than in Jean. Despite this, the outlet mall in Primm managed to capture my attention with its eclectic mix of well-known retailers and an abundance of empty spaces, creating a unique shopping experience.
I find that sports bettors and craps players generally find the gambling experience here to be quite satisfactory. Comparatively speaking, the video poker options available are not as good as those on the Las Vegas Strip, but they are better than what you would find downtown or in the local markets. The minimum bet for table games is set at $5, except for Pai Gow Poker, which requires a $10 minimum. This seems like a reasonable amount and should please the majority of players. It is worth noting that all blackjack tables follow a 6:5 payout ratio, with the exception of a solitary table at Primm Valley.
