Drawing a comparison between Horseshoe and Binion's

Blackjack table at Horseshoe Las Vegas

In December 2022, Bally's underwent a rebranding and emerged as Horseshoe. Caesars Entertainment aims to position Horseshoe as a casino that offers great value for its patrons, as suggested by its new name. Nevertheless, based on our recent survey of the Las Vegas Strip, it appears that Horseshoe does not stand out as a value casino among the other Caesars Entertainment establishments in the area. In a previous article, I conducted a comparison between Horseshoe and Bally's, shedding light on their similarities and differences. Additionally, Horseshoe seeks to draw parallels between itself and the former Binion's property located in downtown Las Vegas.

Times have certainly changed, making it nearly impossible to draw a direct comparison between a casino of today and one from decades ago. The lack of comprehensive data further complicates matters, leaving us with an incomplete picture. Nonetheless, when considering the current state of affairs, it seems only fair to evaluate and compare Horseshoe and Binion's casinos. Upon closer examination, it becomes evident that Binion's often emerges as the clear victor in this comparison.

Best video poker

When it comes to comparing video poker options at Horseshoe and Binion's, it's a fairly straightforward process. At Horseshoe, the standout game in terms of payout is 9/5 Jacks or Better, boasting an impressive 98.45% return. However, this game is limited to denominations of $5, $10, or $25. On the other hand, Binion's may not offer video poker at those specific denominations, but they make up for it by offering four superior video poker games ranging from $0.25 to $1. These titles include 8/5 Bonus Poker (99.17%), 9/7 Double Bonus (99.11%), 9/6 Double Double Bonus (98.98%), and 15/9 Deuces Wild (98.91%). So, while Horseshoe has a top-tier option at higher denominations, Binion's provides a wider range of better choices at lower stakes.

At Horseshoe, you'll find a fantastic selection of bar games that you can enjoy while sipping on your favorite drink. Two of these games, in particular, stand out as crowd favorites. But Horseshoe doesn't stop there when it comes to providing an exciting gaming experience. If you're in the mood for some table games, head over to Binion's, where you'll discover a few machines that offer $1 table games like craps, roulette, and baccarat. These games are sure to get your adrenaline pumping and bring out the competitive spirit within you. It's worth noting that Horseshoe doesn't offer machines with similar options, making Binion's a prime destination for those seeking a variety of exhilarating gaming choices.

Benefit: Binion's, leading by a significant margin.

Table games at Binion's Gambling Hall

At Binion's and Horseshoe casinos, the blackjack games offered are generally below par. However, Binion's emerges as the winner in this comparison due to its offering of the highly favorable 3/2 Double Up Blackjack variant, which is considered the best in the entire Las Vegas market. On the other hand, Horseshoe casino also provides this variant but with a less favorable payout of 6/5. Additionally, Binion's also deals another high-quality variant called Blackjack Switch.

Both casinos do not offer a standard 3/2 blackjack option on their premises. Horseshoe, however, provides a high limit game with 3/2 payout for $50, but this is only available during busy periods.

Binion’s offers blackjack games with a payout ratio of 3 to 2. To participate, players must place a $1 Bonus Spin side bet. However, it's worth mentioning that the casino floors at Binion's are filled with unfavorable blackjack games that pay out at a ratio of 6 to 5.

Advantage: Binion’s

Other table games

I absolutely love the wide selection of table games available at both Binion's and Horseshoe. It's such a thrill to have so many options to choose from when it comes to enjoying some gambling fun. Speaking of options, Horseshoe really stands out with their unique titles like crapless craps, I Luv Suits, Mississippi Stud, 6/5 Free Bet Blackjack, and Ultimate Texas Hold'em. These games add a whole new level of excitement and intrigue to the casino experience. On the other hand, Binion's also offers some unique games of its own, such as Blackjack Switch and Dealer Open Pai Gow Poker. These games provide a refreshing twist and keep things interesting for players looking for something different. All in all, both casinos offer a fantastic variety of table games that cater to different tastes and preferences. It's a true gambler's paradise!

The minimum bets are comparable at both casinos, but Binion's occasionally offers a game with $5 less. During busier evenings, you might discover that Binion's is $10 or $15 more affordable than Horseshoe.

At Horseshoe, the odds for craps are in a ratio of 3-4-5. Meanwhile, Binion's offers odds that are five times the bet, but they require players to pay the commission upfront when buying the 4 and 10.

Advantage: Tie

Poker room

The poker room at the original Horseshoe is no longer available, as Binion's chose not to reopen it following the pandemic. However, the new establishment boasts a newly renovated poker room that is truly remarkable in appearance.

Sportsbooks

I walked into Horseshoe, expecting to find a bustling sportsbook filled with avid bettors and the sound of cheering crowds. To my surprise, the once vibrant space had been transformed into an arcade, where arcade machines now stood in place of betting counters. The only remnant of its former glory was a solitary ticket-writing window tucked away in a corner. Disappointed, I decided to make my way to Binion's, hoping for a more fulfilling sportsbook experience. As I entered, a sense of familiarity washed over me, for I was met with the sight of a small but vibrant sportsbook. Unlike Horseshoe, Binion's had managed to retain its sports betting area, which was impressively larger than what Horseshoe had to offer. What caught my attention was the fact that both sportsbooks were operated by William Hill, a renowned name in the world of sports betting, in partnership with Caesars.

Advantage: Binion’s

Players clubs

In Las Vegas, Binion's is renowned for providing players with an exceptional offer on slot points. Their deal stands out as one of the finest in town. As avid slot enthusiasts, we are treated to a generous 0.31% cash back and an impressive 0.63% in comps on the majority of games. This fantastic package even extends to various video poker titles, although it's worth noting that certain full pay machines offer only half this amount in points. Binion's truly knows how to reward its players and make their gaming experience all the more rewarding.

Binion’s, a casino located in downtown Las Vegas, faces stiff competition from Caesars Rewards, a national casino brand. While Caesars Rewards offers lower rewards in terms of slot points (0.1%) and video poker (0.05%), it compensates by providing numerous enticing perks such as complimentary hotel stays and food offers. Binion’s, being confined to the downtown area, cannot compete with the extensive marketing efforts of Caesars Rewards, which promotes its casinos across the entire country to attract players.

Benefit: Binion's offers slot points, while Horseshoe provides additional perks.
