Boulder Highway and Henderson Excursion planned for August 2024

On August 14, 2024, my companions and I embarked on a thrilling casino adventure, exploring the vibrant gambling scene of Boulder Highway and Henderson. Our first pitstop was at Sam's Town, a renowned establishment that exuded an aura of excitement and anticipation. From there, we ventured to Boulder Station, immersing ourselves in its lively atmosphere and testing our luck at its array of slot machines and table games. The next leg of our journey led us to Sunset Station, a gem nestled amidst the captivating beauty of the surrounding landscapes. With its elegant décor and luxurious amenities, it offered us a haven of entertainment and relaxation. Finally, we made our way to downtown Henderson, a hidden treasure trove of casinos waiting to be discovered. However, prior to this thrilling escapade, we had already explored several casinos located just east of the famous Las Vegas Strip. These establishments, each with their own unique charm, captivated us with their opulent designs and diverse gaming options. Our experiences at these casinos were documented in a separate article, which delves into the intricacies of each venue. As we reflect upon our casino-hopping adventure, we can't help but feel a sense of exhilaration and gratitude for the memories we made in these bustling gambling havens. Each casino offered us a distinct experience, leaving an indelible mark on our journey through the vibrant heart of Las Vegas.

Earlier in the summer, my companions and I made our way through a variety of casinos in the vicinity. Arizona Charlie's Boulder was one of the establishments we passed by, as they made the decision to eliminate table games from their offerings back in 2019. Interestingly enough, this particular casino also lacked electronic table games, which further limited the gaming options available to its patrons. However, it was the video poker at Arizona Charlie's Boulder that truly caught our attention, and not in a positive way. Over the course of recent years, the quality of their video poker selection had noticeably declined, leaving much to be desired.

Sam’s Town

In Las Vegas, the Super Fun 21 table at Sam's Town was once a popular attraction, but it has now disappeared. The extinction of Super Fun 21 in Las Vegas means that this particular variant of the game is no longer available for players to enjoy. Additionally, Sam's Town held the distinction of being the final casino in the city to offer Deuces Wild Hold'em, a unique poker game that combined elements of traditional poker with wild cards. However, this offering has also ceased to exist at the casino. The absence of both Super Fun 21 and Deuces Wild Hold'em at Sam's Town marks the end of an era for these particular gambling experiences in Las Vegas.

During our visit, we found that the casino had a variety of table games at different price points. The majority of the games were priced at $10, which included options such as double-deck blackjack, six-deck blackjack, craps with 20 times odds, double zero roulette, Three Card Poker, and Ultimate Texas Hold'em. However, there was one exception to this pricing, as the Face Up Pai Gow Poker game had a higher minimum bet of $25. This allowed players to have a range of choices depending on their budget and preferences. Whether you were a seasoned player or a beginner, there was something for everyone at the casino.

During my recent visit, I noticed that the multiplayer electronic table game offerings were quite diverse. Among the options available were video 6:5 blackjack, Shoot to Win craps, and a Ministar 00 roulette. What caught my attention was the affordable minimum bet for roulette, which stood at just $0.25. On the other hand, craps required a minimum bet of $1. Interestingly, the minimum bet and side bets for blackjack had undergone some changes since my last visit. Now, players had a broader range of side bets to choose from, including KK, QQ, JJ, 7s, A-2, Match, Pair, Poker 3, and 19+. The most surprising change, however, was the reduced minimum bet for blackjack, which now stood at a mere $0.50.

At Sam's Town, locating the superior video poker machines requires venturing to the back or ascending to the second floor. Unfortunately, the coveted full pay Deuces Wild and other lucrative 100% games are no longer available. However, one can find solace in the existence of quarter 9/7 Double Bonus machines that boast a progressive $1500 royal flush payout. Despite the scarcity, the nickel and quarter Triple Deuces Wild machines, boasting a respectable 99.92% payback, continue to hold their ground. Additionally, there are a handful of Boyd locals "Up to 99.8%" machines scattered throughout the premises, extending their offerings up to the $1 denomination.

In the local bars, you can find a variety of gambling options with enticing payouts. They have a range of quarter games, where you can bet as low as $1 and stand a chance to win big. These games include popular choices like 8/5 Bonus Poker, 9/7 Double Bonus, and 9/6 Double Double Bonus. However, it's worth noting that not all the machines offer these exciting games below $1.

Boulder Station

During my recent visit to Boulder Station, I couldn't help but notice the significant transformation that had taken place since my last trip. The most notable addition was the introduction of Roll to Win Craps, an electrifying electronic table game that features a live dealer and genuine dice. Much to my delight, I discovered that this thrilling game had also been recently installed at Palace Station, Red Rock, and Sunset Station. The minimum bet across all these establishments was set at a reasonable $5, allowing both novice and seasoned players to partake in the excitement. Additionally, the maximum odds offered were an impressive ten times. It was interesting to find that, similar to the live craps tables at Station, the field bet rewarded players with double winnings if the dice happened to roll a 12.

During my recent visit to Boulder Station, I noticed that the table game situation remained consistent with previous trips. However, there was one notable change: the absence of the single-deck blackjack game. It seemed to have vanished from the casino floor, leaving a void in the array of options available to players. On the bright side, other popular games like Face Up Pai Gow Poker, Baccarat, craps, and 3/2 double-deck blackjack were still readily accessible, albeit with a minimum bet of $15. Additionally, the casino offered exciting alternatives such as double zero roulette, 6/5 Free Bet Blackjack, Three Card Poker, and Ultimate Texas Hold'em, all of which could be enjoyed for a more affordable minimum bet of $10. Despite the missing single-deck blackjack, there were still plenty of thrilling table game choices at Boulder Station to keep players entertained and engaged.

At Boulder Station, you can still find stadium table games that offer exciting betting opportunities. If you're a fan of video blackjack, I recommend going for the multi-hand option. Not only does it pay 3:2 on blackjack, but it also allows you to play with just one hand. On the other hand, the single-hand version of blackjack pays 6:5. Regardless of your choice, both options have a minimum bet of $1, making it accessible for all players. If you're into dice games or roulette, you'll be pleased to know that the minimum bet for craps and 00 roulette is only $0.25. Plus, craps offers the chance to triple your winnings on a field 12, adding an extra level of excitement to the game.

The Ministar 00 roulette machine features an exciting Touchdown Roulette side bet that activates a bonus round when landing on either 0 or 00, all with a minimum bet of $0.25.

At Boulder Station, I've noticed a concerning trend with the video poker pay tables. The quality seems to be deteriorating, as the options for favorable payouts are becoming scarce. In fact, I could only locate a single bank of machines that offered a 100% return rate. Unfortunately, the availability of these machines is diminishing rapidly. I searched high and low but couldn't find any bar machines that featured 8/5 Bonus Poker, which is disappointing. However, I did come across a relatively better option in the form of 15/9 Deuces Wild, although it still falls short of the desired 100% return. Overall, it's disheartening to witness the decline in video poker pay tables at Boulder Station.

Sunset Station

I've always found Sunset Station to be a hidden gem in the Station Casinos lineup, offering exceptional value for your gambling dollar. Step into their lively pit, and you'll find an exciting array of games with a minimum bet of just $10. Whether you prefer the thrill of blackjack or the roll of the dice in craps, Sunset Station has got you covered. And if poker is more your style, you can try your luck at Crazy 4 Poker, Three Card Poker, or the ever-popular Ultimate Texas Hold'em. For those seeking a unique twist, they even offer Face Up Pai Gow Poker, with a slightly higher minimum bet of $15. And let's not forget the spinning wheel of chance - double zero roulette is also available for your gaming pleasure. To top it all off, Sunset Station satisfies blackjack enthusiasts with both 3/2 double-deck blackjack and 3/2 six-deck blackjack options. And if you're feeling adventurous, you can try your hand at 6/5 Free Bet Blackjack, where the casino picks up the tab for certain double downs and splits. With so many choices at Sunset Station, you're sure to find the perfect game to suit your style and budget.

During our recent return to the casino, we discovered a multitude of transformations that had taken place within the realm of table games. Notably, a brand new addition graced the scene - the eagerly anticipated $5 Roll to Win Craps. This exhilarating game embraced the potential for up to 10 times odds, amplifying the excitement for players. Furthermore, the landscape of Free Bet Blackjack had undergone a significant alteration, as it now boasted a payout of 6/5. Interestingly, this particular casino was one of only two Station Casinos that had previously rewarded players with a more generous payout of 3/2. However, it should be noted that upon our most recent confirmation, Santa Fe Station continued to uphold the tradition of offering a 3/2 payout.

Sunset Station has replaced the blackjack tables in its high-limit room with an exclusive collection of slot machines.

The selection of electronic table games remains limited, with just two choices available. One option is the heads-up craps, which offers triple payouts on a field twelve and requires a minimum bet of $1. The other option is multiplayer 00 roulette, where the minimum bet is set at $0.50.

Sunset Station offers a more favorable selection of video poker machines compared to other Station Casinos. With an abundance of options boasting "Up to 99.8%" and "100% payback," Sunset Station stands out. However, it is worth noting that the variety of video poker variants at Sunset Station is slightly limited, as the collection is relatively smaller in size.

The bars continue to offer 8/5 Bonus Poker with quarter and dollar denominations. Additionally, there are a few sets of 9/6 Double Double Bonus machines where a royal flush pays out an impressive $1199.

Downtown Henderson

Our final destination was the heart of Henderson, downtown. It's an excellent spot for those seeking value. At Emerald Island, you'll find an array of enticing games such as 10/6 Double Double Bonus and Not-so-ugly Deuces Wild, offered in denominations of $0.01, $0.02, and $0.05. Players have the option to wager up to 30 coins per line, adding to the excitement. What's even better is that obtaining food comps is a breeze. Loyal players are generously treated to complimentary meals, making it a true perk. Just across the street is Rainbow Club, owned by the same proprietor, and they offer equally enticing deals.

In the heart of downtown Henderson lies Pass Casino, a haven for casino enthusiasts seeking the thrill of table games. Unlike its counterparts, Pass Casino stands as the sole establishment in the area to offer the exhilarating experience of table games. Here, players can indulge in the adrenaline-pumping $5 double zero roulette and craps, accompanied by the enticing $10 3/2 blackjack. However, it's important to note that on weekends, the stakes rise, adding an extra layer of excitement to the gameplay. Nonetheless, when it comes to video poker, Pass Casino falls behind its neighboring downtown Henderson casinos, providing a less-than-desirable experience for avid players.
