Arizona Charlie's Decatur shut down its poker room on Thursday night, marking the second time this week that a Las Vegas poker room has closed its doors.
The initial report about this was made by Rob Solomon on Twitter, and was later confirmed by a representative from Arizona Charlie's earlier today.
My favorite place to play poker is the Arizona Charlie's casino, situated just west of downtown Las Vegas on Decatur Blvd. This cozy establishment boasts a poker room that is equipped with three poker tables. The majority of the time, they offer a 2/4 or 4/8 fixed limit Texas Hold'em game, which attracts a steady crowd of poker enthusiasts. On weekends, they spice things up by hosting some 1/2 no limit action, adding an extra element of excitement to the mix. I must mention, however, that tournaments are not available in the poker room at Arizona Charlie's. Nonetheless, if you're looking for a friendly and intimate atmosphere to enjoy a game of poker, this is definitely the place to be.
In 2017, Arizona Charlie's Decatur became the final poker room in Las Vegas to prohibit smoking, putting an end to the practice at their poker tables.
In 2017, Golden Entertainment acquired Arizona Charlie's along with three other casinos in southern Nevada. Among those properties was Stratosphere, which used to have a 12-table poker room but now operates with only four tables since Golden Entertainment took over. However, there are future plans to bring back most of the removed tables once the property undergoes renovation. It's worth noting that Arizona Charlie's Boulder and Aquarius Casino in Laughlin, the remaining two casinos included in the sale, did not have poker rooms at the time of the company's acquisition.
Another poker room in Las Vegas shutting down within this week.
Another Las Vegas casino, Treasure Island, also closed its poker room this week, joining Arizona Charlie's Decatur in stepping away from live poker.
In 2018, three poker rooms in Las Vegas shut down, including the Suncoast poker room which transformed into a hub for promotional activities in April.
In the past decade, a total of 26 Las Vegas poker rooms have shut down, leaving poker enthusiasts with fewer options to indulge in their favorite card game.
