Online Poker in Nevada

Online Poker in the Silver State

It was in Nevada in 1969, that an idea of an annual poker tournament, today known as the World Series of Poker, had its beginning. And fifty years later, poker players in Nevada are in for a real treat: this year to celebrate the 50th annual World Series of Poker, a number of exciting online tournaments had been planned. Yes, all that without having to leave your house.

So let’s have a look at legal and practical aspects of playing poker online in Nevada and what’s in store for this year’s WSOP online players.

Yes, online poker is legal in Nevada, and in four other states in the US. But for a while now, owners of land casinos have been trying to stop NV Online Poker from expanding. One way to slow its growth was through reviving an old piece of legislation – the Federal Wire Act from 1961. It was originally meant to stop sports bets taking place over a wire (a phone or a telegraph wire) crossing the state lines. In 2011, the Department of Justice issued an opinion that the said law applied only to sporting bets, opening the doors for states regulating online real money poker games and licensing their operators. The only gambling activity exempt from this law is NV Horse Racing Betting.

In 2013, a state bill was passed making NV Online Poker real money poker games legal within the state of Nevada. The bill, known as AB 114, allowed also for combining online poker players from other states into a larger pool. So now Nevada, Delaware, and New Jersey poker players can join the same online poker rooms.

Latest developments

Recently, another important thing happened on the federal level. In January 2019, the DOJ went back on its 2011 opinion and issued a new interpretation of the Wire Act, one that applies it to poker and other online real money games. Once the new DOJ opinion on the Wire Act is tested in court, we will know if there is a reason to worry.

At this point, it’s really hard to predict what will happen with online real money poker. Sheldon Adelson, one of the richest man on Earth, and also an owner of a number of casinos in Las Vegas, hasn’t spared any resources to fight NV Online Poker. His lobbying against it caused serious anger among poker players, some even called for a boycott of poker rooms in his casinos.

WSOP poker online

The World Series Of Poker, a known, trusted brand, owned by Caesars Entertainment Corporation, is de facto the only relevant host to Online Poker Vegas. And this year to celebrate the 50th WSOP tournament, they decided to pay special attention to online poker players, offering among other promotions a chance at winning a free seat at the event or a golden bracelet.

There is usually a few hundred players online, so finding a game shouldn’t be a problem. WSOP Nevada signed agreements in 2015 with Delaware, and in 2018 with New Jersey allowing players from those states to play poker online together. The shared player pool between NV, DE and NJ means WSOP has the largest number of players among all other licensed, real money poker hosts in the US.

WSOP Promotions

Other special 50th anniversary promotions include a series of nine online events in June and July. Players get the chance to win a golden bracelet and each Sunday a WSOP Nevada satellite tournament with a seat at the main event at stake.

Also on Sundays, a newWSOP online tradition is a $100,000 guaranteed tournament. Another special feature WSOP offers online player is Poker Blast, where with a small buy-in you can play for up to ten thousand times its value. Any day or night, you can find a variety of games: multi-table tournaments, sit and go, cash games, and scheduled tournaments.

Payment & Registration

There are multiple payment and withdrawal options. You can deposit your money via e-Check ACH, credit and debit card, PayPal, Cash at Casino Cage, PayNearMe and Neteller. As for the withdrawal options – it’s all of the above with the exception of credit/debit cards and PayNearMe.

Registering on the website is pretty straightforward. Just remember that your identity and geolocation will be verified before you can play real money poker, to ensure you are at least 21 and in Nevada.

Real Gaming Online Poker

Real Gaming Online Poker seems to be struggling with getting players online, but their website is very slick and promising. Still, despite the elegant design, there seems to be missing content. Most time the “learn more” button in various sections on the website will take you nowhere.

To begin you have to create an account on Real Gaming website, once you log in, you will have to go through the location verification process. You need to be physically present within the state of Nevada to be able to bet money in the poker games.

The Real Gaming Online Poker offers regular texas hold’em poker online and various tournaments scheduled ahead, however, you might not find other players to play against since traffic on the website is almost none.

You can use an electronic check or cash deposit at 7-11, but the withdrawal of your winnings is only possible via mailed check so it might take a while.

WSOP Real Money Poker App

Once you download the WSOP Real Money Poker App, log into your account or register if you haven’t done that online yet, and chose if you want to play with real money or practice. In the “lobby” you will see all available games, and you just have to click on the one you want to join.

The only complaint about the WSOP App is what so far seems to be a common problem among mobile poker apps: you can’t play multi-table. You can do it online, but on a computer.

Real Gaming App

Both desktop and mobile version can be played on a browser, so the user does not have to download anything to his device. However, even the pleasant design of both the website and the Real Gaming App, cannot make up for the lack of players.

Get started with a Poker App

You can download both online poker apps from their respective websites and from the iTunes store. You will have to register so that your location and identity can be verified. This is because to play poker with real money, you must be 21 years old and physically present within the borders of the state of Nevada. However, you don’t have to be a resident of Nevada. Payment and withdrawal options are the same for the mobile apps as they are for their respective online poker websites.

How to Play Poker Online in NV

If you are in Nevada, you can choose between the two Nevada Online Poker Sites and of course a visit to the real-life poker room. Online poker is usually faster-paced than the live one. Also, some players complain about losing the real-life conversation and a chance at observing other players and catching their tells. Other players appreciate the comfort of playing poker online from home and the flexibility of being able to play poker online wherever they happen to be, of course within the limits of Nevada’s borders.

Finally, some players instead of choosing between the real-life and online games, chose to do both at the same time: while playing a live poker game in one of Las Vegas’ casinos, and waiting for another hand to be dealt, they also play Online Poker Vegas on their phones. The great news is, you don’t have to choose, especially if you are in Nevada.

Moreover, you can also try out Nevada Sports Betting apps while you are in town.
